Intro

Hi there! This is a place for me to record the adventure of starting preschool home school with my son. It is mostly to help me keep track of our activities and curriculum.

My son Reese is two years old, so most of our preschool will be centered around play. However, we are starting some coloring pages and activities to teach the basics in a fun, toddler-friendly way. :)

Here are my curriculum goals. (They might be way too ambitious... ;) We'll see what we can fit in!)

  • Do coloring pages 3 days a week, covering these concepts:
    • Letter of the week (2 days/wk)
    • Number of the week (2 days/wk)
    • Unit study--color of the week, shape of the week, etc. (1 day/wk)
    • Explore various art mediums--markers, crayons, colored pencils, construction paper crafts

  • Study our "animal map:"
    • Look at one continent each week
    • Talk about the animals and other points of interest for that continent

  • Go to the park 3 days a week, and incorporate these activities:
    • Nature study--examining trees, leaves, sand, pine cones, etc., and discussing textures and colors of objects
    • Social play--playground, discuss what other kids are doing
    • Gross motor skills--practice kicking and throwing a ball
    • Art/discovery--sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and any other new curiosities we introduce :)

  • Music time once a week:
    • Get out Reese's maracas, train whistle, drum, etc and play his favorite songs on piano, while he shakes or drums along

  • Toddler group once a week at the library

  • Read, read, read!

I am excited to start this adventure with my baby boy, and share it with those who are interested! Week #1, here goes!
